Lecture 1: Introduction to Design Principle and Briefing
Week 1
This week I have missed the class because the clashes timetable but base on my friends they told me that Mrs Sherry talks about contrast.
Because I did not attend the class, so I have to catch up with the exercises. I made a checkerboard pattern and I was inspired by my shoes. I think the checkerboard pattern feels like "old but gold" thing. Nowadays so many brand stuff using this pattern and its make the stuff look so vancy.

Lecture 2: Gestalt
Week 2
Today is my day in Design Principles class. This class so interested for me. at the begin, Mrs Sherry explains about gestalt. Gestalt is a psychology term which means "unified whole". so basically we have to come out with our idea to draw without draw it completely, but our brain can make the connection between the line.
I was looking on Pinterest to get some idea and reference. at first, I want to make zebra but I think again that zebra is quite common and there are so many animals that have pattern. so I made Citah

Lecture 3: Symmetry, Asymmetry, Emphasis, and Balance
Week 3
This week my friends doing a presentation about symmetry, asymmetry, and balance. after the presentation, we have to create a work about one of four that things. so I decided to make asymmetry. Asymmetry is non-identical on both sides of a central line.
i got this idea from Melefincent movie.

Lecture 5: Surface, Texture, Repetition, and Pattern
Week 5
This week, as usual, my friends doing a presentation about surface, texture, repetition, and pattern.
The pattern is repeated or regular way in which something happens or is done. Repetition is repeating something over and over again. For these exercises i make repetition.
fig 4.1 pineapple stamp
i made my work with potatoes and watercolour

after finish the exercises, we doing critic and some of my friends tell that my pineapple stamp is cute and simple.
Lecture 6: Alignment, Direction, Perspective
Week 6
As usual, this week my friends made a presentation about Alignment, Direction, Perspective. I chose a perspective for my exercises today.
I chose three perspective points and started looking for ideas by looking at Pinterest.
fig 5.1 my idea
fig 5.2 make helpline of 3 point perspective
fig 5.3 make shapes of perspective
fig 5.4 clearing the helpline
some of the materials that I bring are paperboard, wool yarn, and I get additional items from my friends, that are plastic bags and plastic bottles.
first I wanted to make a building like my reference in the Pinterest but after I tried using the material I had it turned out the results were not good
fig 5.5 process of my work
I use wool yarn for the top and the edges, then for the body, I use a plastic bag.
after that, I felt my work looked very ordinary and I tried to decorate it. I cut the cardboard with a paper cutter and then add pieces of plastic bottles so that the end result of the carton inside the plastic bottle can shake
fig 5.6 final attempt
after completing the exercises, we did a comment session in a way that was divided by the group. my friends say my work is good and unique.
Lecture 7: Dot, Line, Scale, Size
Week 7
This week's lecture is about Dot, Line, Scale, Size. I chose Line for my practice this week. so there are several kinds of direction lines such as Horizontal lines, vertical lines, diagonal lines.
I chose diagonal lines for my work to make it look more creative.
as usual, I look for ideas through Pinterest.
fig 6.1 idea
besides that, I get additional ideas that come up when I see my friend sitting in front of me. My friend became my inspiration because she always made good and interesting works. so the character in my exercises today is my friend.
I add a line-shaped like a crystal on his head that illustrates the ideas of my friend is always very good like crystals
fig 6.2 process of my work
for her face, I made lines like this to make it look more clear that the work that I made was diagonal line.
fig 6.3 after colouring
for the final result, I added an outline to make it more unique
fig 6.4 final attempt
after the exercise was finished as usual we had a comment session divided by groups. my friends said that my work was very good and unique, besides that Miss Jinchi said that my work was cool.
Lecture 8 : Rhythm, Movement, Harmony
Week 8
As usual, this week my friend is presenting about Rhythm, Movement, Harmony. For those three explanations, I chose Rhythm to be my exercises this week.
there are various kinds of Rhythm in the design such as Alternating, Flowing, Progressive, Random, and Regular. The meaning of rhythm itself is the regular repetition of elements of art to produce the look and feel of movement.
Because I chose Random Rhythm, so random rhythm is a picture has no pattern. I use Pinterest to get some idea and references.

Lecture 9: Symbol, Image, Words
Week 9
For this week my group explained about Symbols, Image, Words.
Symbol is a mark or character is used as a standard
representation of an object, function, or process. There are some things that can show symbols for example with icons, shapes, signs, concepts, gestures, and colours
Image is a representation of the external form of a person or
thing in art. There are several kinds of images, such as still images which means the images do not move, Volatile Image is An image that will only exist in a short period of time, Vector Image is Creation of digital images through a sequence of commands or mathematical statements, GIF Image is an image file format commonly used for images on the web and sprites in software programs, Monochrome is the image presented in different values and intensities or different shades of a single colour, Grayscale Image is the collection or the range of monochromic with grey shades, ranging from pure white on the lightest end to pure black on the opposite end.
And the las is words, the words itself has a purpose that is to convey the concept or idea the designer wants his/her audience to understand.
For this week exercises, I take a vector image. basically, i combine still image and vector. but at the end, i made both
as usually i found the idea from Pinterest

For my exercises, I use my cousin picture.
fig 8.3 my cousin picture
because i want to make vector, so i have to use Ai software.

This week we did not make a comment because there are still many who have not to finish the exercises yet
PROJECT 2 : SELF PORTRAIT
Week 10 - 11
For this project, we review for ourselves through the four questions that are needed such as
1. Who am i?
2. How has culture affected me?
3. How do others see me?
4. How do i see myself?
I am someone who wants to always be better. basically I'm an extrovert but sometimes I become an introvert. I am the type of person who does not care about matters that are none of my business and I am a simple person in everything. I always prepare something that I think will be of use to me so as not to bother others.
I was born in Indonesia, where the majority of the population is Muslim, so the culture that I have an effect on is Indonesian Muslim culture. But I have moved to Malaysia for 2 years here. I have met many people from various countries such as Korea, Turkey, Pakistan, Malay, China and others who made me adopt some cultures from my friends' cultures.
When people see me, they think I am a local Malaysian because the faces of Indonesians and Malaysians are similar. sometimes they talk to me using Malay and sometimes some people think I'm a Chinese Muslim. besides that my friends say I think I'm a patient person
I am a person who does not want to be complicated, sometimes I become quiet because of the situation around me introverts.
To make this project you are looking for some ideas on Pinterest and i choose vector image.

after getting a few ideas I started to make my project and i choose this photo
fig 9.4 my photo
fig 9.5 Vector process
fig 9.6 after edit
this is the result of my project's first try. I thought that my work was too simple but my friend said that this was cool and I managed to convey a simple message through my work.
but I decided to add a little decoration so it doesn't look too empty.
fig 9.7 edit again
fig 9.8 final work
this is the final result of my work. I added some decorations but the simple impression didn't come off
Rational :
in my work this time I want to show that I'm sadly a simple person. I want to tell people that I don't like things that are complicated from starting clothes to other things. although simple I also want to look attractive. the thing that I do to make it interesting is by applying colours or items that I use to make it look catching. for my work, I chose vector. because lately, I love to do vectors and explore how to make good vectors. in my work, I really draw myself with the same simple combination but make people like to see it with those colours. that's my concept. besides that, I also added a simple inscription with P represented by my head shape. for decoration, I add a round shape with three colours namely nude, black, and white. besides that, there are two triangular shapes on my feet with a combination of nude. This is done in order to attract attention. so even though my image is simple but I use the colour for makes catches.
Design Principles that I used :
1. Vector image
2. Words (Simple)
Final Project: Cultural Relationship
Week 11 - 12
for the final of this project, I chose the Bukit Bintang Area as my destination. Bukit Bintang is a place that must be visited when visiting Kuala Lumpur. there are various types of food but it is dominated by seafood. Because this place is a tourist centre so I can find many cultures here that are centred on one culture. however Malaysia has three unified cultures namely Malay, Chinese, and India.

Week 11 - 12
for the final of this project, I chose the Bukit Bintang Area as my destination. Because this place is a tourist centre so I can find many cultures here that are centred on one culture. however Malaysia has three unified cultures namely Malay, Chinese, and India.

Because I went at night so this road is very crowded with tourists
fig 10.2 Bukit Bintang Area
fig 10.3 food vendors at Bukit Bintang
In Bukit Bintang, there are many restaurants that use banners that read Chinese. this is because almost all the sellers here are owned by Malaysian local Chinese. although they are Chinese they are quite fluent in Malay.
To start my work, I got inspiration from a social media influencer. She so caught my attention because her style dared to combine various colours. The reason I was inspired by her because of star hills like the night city which is decorated by many colourful lights and then visited by many people who wear different colours of clothes and are equipped with interesting food colour. in addition, this concept illustrates three cultures. The Chinee culture is depicted with lanterns hanging above. Indian Culture is depicted in colourful background. Malay culture is described in terms of its food.

after getting the idea, I started my work by drawing a rough sketch first
fig 10.6 my rough sketch
after that I began to thicken the sketch using a pen and began to colour it with crayon oil material.
fig 10.7 colouring process
fig 10.8 after colouring
this is the final result of my colouring work. After this, I import it into photoshop to add a little decoration.
I will add some pictures of food sold at Bukit Bintang such as seafood, durian, satay, and others. unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the food, so I got it from Google.

Rationale :
my work requires for a culture relationship that Malaysia has three cultures, there are Chinese, India, and Malay. On this opportunity, I went to Bukit Bintang as my destination. Bukit Bindung is a food tourism destination in Kuala Lumpur. So it's definitely a lot of tourists found here. Bukit Bindung is dominated by Chinese culture because almost all of the eating places there are owned by local Chinese local in Malay. This can be seen from the lanterns hung above it and the names of the shops written in Chinese. but even though they are local Chinese, some of them have Malaysian food such as satay, apam balik cake, and others. Besides that, decoration at Bukit Bintang is also decorated with colourful colours like Indian culture.
my work illustrates the three cultures in Malaysia. The first light hanging above is Chinese culture. the second food that I input is local food from Malay. the third part of my background combines many colours as the same as Indian culture.
Design Principle that i used :
1. asymmetry : (the road and the vendors food)
2. line: the background
3. image: the food
